How to resize a photo or signature for an online form
Start with the requirements printed on the form you are actually using. Photo and signature rules vary by destination and can change, so the safest workflow is to copy those requirements exactly before editing the image.
Copy the form requirements before touching the image
Do not rely on a remembered requirement from another application. Even two forms from the same general category can ask for different dimensions, formats or file-size limits.

Photo and signature shapes are usually different
A portrait photo is commonly taller than it is wide, while a signature is often much wider than it is tall. That difference is an aspect-ratio issue. If the source aspect ratio does not match the requested output, something has to give: crop part of the source or add space around it. Stretching is the wrong solution because it distorts the content.
Crop to fill vs fit the entire image
The image keeps its shape while overflow is trimmed. Position the crop so the important content remains where you intend it to be.
The whole source remains visible and white padding fills the remaining space. Use this only when the destination permits that appearance.
Upload Ready does not recommend stretching the image to force an aspect ratio.
Correct pixels do not guarantee correct KB
After resizing to the requested dimensions, the encoded file may still be too large—or, when a minimum is required, too small. The final byte size also depends on format, image content and encoding. That is why the workflow should validate dimensions and file size separately.
Choose JPEG, PNG or WebP only when the form accepts that format. Upload Ready does not silently convert to an unrequested format to make a size target easier.
Validate the result that will actually be uploaded
Upload Ready checks the generated output's format, pixel dimensions and actual serialized bytes. A green-looking preview is not enough if one of those concrete requirements still fails.
If the combination cannot be reached legitimately, the tool reports failure instead of relaxing your rules or padding the file with meaningless data.
What Upload Ready does not judge
It does not determine whether a photograph satisfies biometric or official composition rules. It does not judge face placement, official background requirements, head size, biometric rules, photo recency or whether an authority will accept the upload. Those checks belong to the destination's instructions and validation process.
Checklist before you upload
- Re-read the form's accepted image format.
- Check the final width and height against the required pixels.
- Check the final KB/MB value against any minimum and maximum.
- Visually inspect a crop so important content was not trimmed accidentally.
- If you used white padding, confirm the destination allows that appearance.
- Keep the original image in case you need to create a different version later.
